Things to Keep In Mind When Buying A Miniature
Horse Submitted by: Carol Albritton - Vertical Limits
If you are thinking about buying an AMHA or AMHR miniature – ALWAYS check it out first with the STUD BOOKS ONLINE or have someone do it for you.
Make sure it is registered in the SELLER’S NAME if not contact person of listed ownership to make sure the horse is being bought on time and that payments are being made per contract.
If it is an unregistered foal, check out the mare’s status. If you buy a foal out of a mare that hasn’t been paid for, you very well might be stuck with an unregistered horse. Problems can arise when trying to register a foal if the parents haven’t been DNA’d if the mare or stallion were born after 1996 OR if there is an OV or RV after the sire’s or dam’s name.
IF IN DOUBT, BEFORE BUYING CALL AMHA OR AMHR TO FIND OUT FOR SURE IF THE PAPERS ARE IN ORDER OR IF A FOAL CAN BE REGISTERED!!!!!!!
Lots of scams are going on so PLEASE take precautions!!!!!!
